I Love Boxes

I realised this a long time ago: I love putting people in boxes.

Give me a survey that puts me in a box and gives me a label and I’ll do it. Off the top of my head I can tell you that I’m an ESTJ/Guardian (Myers Briggs), an implementer/shaper (Belbin), my motivational gifts are service/leadership, my Strengthsfinder dominant themes are arranger/belief/ideation/responsibility/strategic, my Neethling Brain Preference Profile is L1/R1 and when I was thirteen I did an IQ test online and got a score of 127.

Give me half a chance and with any group I’ll try and make them do several of these surveys. I’ve done them with youth groups, cell groups, interns, staff teams and even the wife!

I’m really not sure why I love filling these things in! Maybe it’s because I love trying to understand myself to a greater degree, and this helps me work out my place within God’s story? Maybe it’s because I’m a very black and white person, and I like knowing how people are wired and how they function? Maybe I like finding common ground with others? Maybe it’s because I like celebrating the diversity of God-given personality and gifts?

Maybe I just like putting people in boxes?
